I’m sitting here. In the garden, enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Besides absorbing the essential Vitamin D, I, also, take in the sights and sounds of chirping birds and the gentle sway of palm fronds in the soft, cool breeze.

And I ponder; I reflect upon the year gone by – 2018. It was a busy year. A happy year. A sad year. Many different emotions all packed into one memorable year. With the advent of a fresh new year, the Gracious Almighty has given me another chance to put right my wrongs, and afforded me the opportunity to allow myself to become the best ME that I could possibly be. Indeed, for that I truly thank You.

I realise that my blessings, however small they may be, appear everywhere, every day, and, more importantly, they are there, for me, with each new year. Therefore, now that 2019 has dawned, I am deeply and veraciously grateful for each fresh, new day.

A few of my blessings – miracles – are penned below, in poetic form.

So, put down your mug of coffee, stop playing video games, and simply sit back, against the puffed up cushions in your nice, comfy, chunky sofa. Huddle up beneath your warm ‘blankie’, and read on.

Read slowly, meaningfully, pausing, now and again, to digest the vivid imagery present in the poem….

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“See the garden, green and lush, that freshly blooms;
Observe the red-bricked house and all its rooms;
Note the far off planet, strange, with rings and several moons;
Look! Happy, excited, giggly children, watching cartoons.
Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!
******
“Ah, heed the ocean, with its waves, eddies and tides;
The sprightly, little donkey and its fun-filled rides;
Smell the bakery goodies – its cakes, doughnuts and pies;
Listen to the chatter and natter of proud grooms ‘n’ blushing brides.
Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!
******
“Watch the bonny, bouncy, bubbly babes;
Catch those magical, wonderful, dainty snowflakes;
Oh! And, careful of gorillas, baboons, chimps and apes;
Sea creatures of odd sizes – Wow! A kaleidoscope of colours ‘n’ shapes.
Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!
******
“Embrace the loving protection of your dad – be enormously grateful;
Hug the caring devotion of your mum – be tremendously thankful;
Cuddle up with the love and affection of sibling unity – be joyful;
For, yes, indeed, ’tis family that really matters – utterly delightful!
Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!
“So…
“Much obliged, we truly are, dear Lord, for all these rich Blessings,
You are Merciful, Gracious, Omnipotent, Forgiving and Kind;
Appreciative we are, for the life You have granted us – with its endless lessons;
Prithee, most earnestly, humbly we pray, bless us to be good, gentle and kind.”
Amen/Ameen.
There I was in the middle of the park in the company of two fierce looking rhinos. Everywhere I looked, I saw tall dried grasses, with acacias polka dotting the panoramic view. I pinched myself. Was this for real? Or a dream? Worse still, could it be the beginning of a nightmare…….with a dreadful ending? Gulp.
“Dad, can I have a chocolate biscuit please?” The sound of the child’s voice immediately comforted me. It brought me back to reality. Thankfully.
Haha. I then realised where I actually was. My wild imagination had got the better of me, once again!
I was safely sitting in a four wheel drive automobile with family and friends. Phew. And a hamper full of eats and drinks. Yeah. Refreshments. What a relief!
This diligently planned safari to Nairobi National Park enabled us to observe a whole lot of wildlife. My son and his friend had procured pin locations of various animals. We were fortunate to see wild buffaloes, baboons, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, elands, impalas, rhinos, gazelles, not forgetting our feathery friends – the ostriches.
The safari was just one event on my itinerary. I was on a visit to the beautiful, tourist-y Kenya. However, meeting my first grandchild – an adorable, precious granddaughter – was the main highlight of my trip. By God’s grace, I spent a wonderful, exciting, memorable time with family.
My beloved son had organised a week long stay in a charming cottage at Diani Beach. Oh, it was totally paradise! We just flew into Mombasa, a short flight, taking along the ayah to help in looking after our cute little bundle of energetic joy!
Needless to say, weather was absolutely lovely, the breeze was just right and the lush presence of palm trees, flowering shrubs and fruit trees, was simply perfect. Hummingbirds, weaver birds and the gorgeous, psychedelically painted butterflies – a magical delight!
A jolly, cheery cook was there to promptly tickle our palates. The cuisine included breakfast with a variety of fresh fruits and exotic fresh juices; luscious-looking jumbo prawns; various fish, freshly caught; barbecue nights, and a store of scrumptious foodstuff. What bliss……thank You so much!
Swimming either in one of the crystal clear pools or going for a dip in the blue/green ocean was our  choice. We chose both the waters. All of us had a real rollicking time, splashing about, paddling, and wading through seaweed that would pop up here and there, and/or just a swim in the warm sea.
Gosh, I could go on and on about the beauty of this wonderful land – Kenya. But to really get the feel of this rich, stunning, friendly environment, one needs to visit and savour the fantastic experiences themselves.
Bon Voyage! Safe travels! And, remember…. Hakuna Matata!
12.12.12
Today is 12.12.12 –  the last of the repeating dates this century. People the world over are celebrating this significant date, and commemorating it with special events. But one boy has something extra special to celebrate.
Corey Smith will celebrate a momentous coincidence as he turns 12 at 12 today – 12.12.12. Born in 2000 at 12 noon, this young boy awaits the incredulous moment. Wow.
As we make note of this day, let us take a minute to reflect on life. Young or old, we are happy to be alive. We are thankful to Him for this day…for all the blessings we have enjoyed. Certainly, we are grateful for even the ups and downs because they have made our journey all the more interesting.
Adversities make us stronger. The knocks and tumbles are there to steer us and direct us in the right direction. Friends and family give us the love and support to help us overcome such obstacles. We give gratitude for our parents…God bless them for their unconditional love.
With strong faith and deep trust in Him, hurdles are cleared and barriers broken down. We need not worry for an answer to our prayers. Just have patience and always remember He is near: “Trust in My timing for My timing is perfect. Just let Me do My job.” When the moment is right, it will happen.
Agreed, the climb can be tough; the tumble, rough. All the waiting and being patient is too trying. But getting through it all is reason enough to celebrate the new YOU – the more confident, capable and compassionate YOU. Compassionate? Yes. Since after having experienced similar trials and tribulations, one becomes more understanding and caring of others’ feelings.
On this day, let the universal spirit of togetherness unite everyone, irrespective of caste, colour or creed and let there be more tolerance, patience and forgiveness in the world.
Today, may you have luck and laughter on your side; may health and happiness be yours, and, if it snows, go out and build yourself a merry little snowman – Happy 12.12.12!
