Hakuna Matata. Safe travels!

There I was in the middle of the park in the company of two fierce looking rhinos. Everywhere I looked, I saw tall dried grasses, with acacias polka dotting the panoramic view. I pinched myself. Was this for real? Or a dream? Worse still, could it be the beginning of a nightmare…….with a dreadful ending? Gulp.

“Dad, can I have a chocolate biscuit please?” The sound of the child’s voice immediately comforted me. It brought me back to reality. Thankfully.

Haha. I then realised where I actually was. My wild imagination had got the better of me, once again!

I was safely sitting in a four wheel drive automobile with family and friends. Phew. And a hamper full of eats and drinks. Yeah. Refreshments. What a relief!

This diligently planned safari to Nairobi National Park enabled us to observe a whole lot of wildlife. My son and his friend had procured pin locations of various animals. We were fortunate to see wild buffaloes, baboons, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, elands, impalas, rhinos, gazelles, not forgetting our feathery friends – the ostriches.

The safari was just one event on my itinerary. I was on a visit to the beautiful, tourist-y Kenya. However, meeting my first grandchild – an adorable, precious granddaughter – was the main highlight of my trip. By God’s grace, I spent a wonderful, exciting, memorable time with family.

My beloved son had organised a week long stay in a charming cottage at Diani Beach. Oh, it was totally paradise! We just flew into Mombasa, a short flight, taking along the ayah to help in looking after our cute little bundle of energetic joy!

Needless to say, weather was absolutely lovely, the breeze was just right and the lush presence of palm trees, flowering shrubs and fruit trees, was simply perfect. Hummingbirds, weaver birds and the gorgeous, psychedelically painted butterflies – a magical delight!

A jolly, cheery cook was there to promptly tickle our palates. The cuisine included breakfast with a variety of fresh fruits and exotic fresh juices; luscious-looking jumbo prawns; various fish, freshly caught; barbecue nights, and a store of scrumptious foodstuff. What bliss……thank You so much!

Swimming either in one of the crystal clear pools or going for a dip in the blue/green ocean was our  choice. We chose both the waters. All of us had a real rollicking time, splashing about, paddling, and wading through seaweed that would pop up here and there, and/or just a swim in the warm sea.

Gosh, I could go on and on about the beauty of this wonderful land – Kenya. But to really get the feel of this rich, stunning, friendly environment, one needs to visit and savour the fantastic experiences themselves.

Bon Voyage! Safe travels! And, remember…. Hakuna Matata!

Me the bee – the Christmas bee!

Courtesy of S.S

I am a bee, a busy bee, a Christmas bee, you see
I have too much to do, I am buzz-y, buzz-y, buzz-y.

Santa dear, one day, came to me, and asked for my help, you see
“The shopping list is far too long,” whined he, over a cuppa tea.

His face, a wee bit weary, into the chair, he slumped, so sad, dear me!
“Got too much to do; pressies to buy, then wrap to put under that tree.”

“Rudolph’s down with flu, two elves are sick in bed, oh woe is me!”
Oh my gosh, thought me the bee, was this a dream, a movie or some fantasy?

Come, come, dear man, this will not do; tut-tut, all this I cannot see
Now listen up, Santa, just you breathe, relax and quietly drink your tea.

The world awaits you; every kid with bated breath, agog to hug a pressie
Don’t let them down, please, Santa; I will do my part to help, said me the bee.

So, who helped with the wrapping, the packing; gifts to place beneath the Christmas tree?
Who bucked up Santa? Healed Rudolph and those sickly elves? Yes, me the bee!

Dear friends, so that’s the tale how I became a Christmas bee, the busy bee;
Now whene’er you hear the “Ho Ho Ho!”, thank me, the bee – buzz-y, buzzy, buzz-y!

I feel so blessed, I must confess

‘Twas beneath the tree
That I did see
Amidst the green
The quiet, the serene.

Whispers of the breeze;
The buzz of bumblebees;
Rustle of the leaves;
The sunshine, ah, the peace!

I feel so blessed
I must confess
To realise I am no less
Than he, she and the rest.

I am His child, without a doubt
As are we all, just shout it out.
All are equal, there is no doubt,
Loved by Him, of us He’s proud.

So let me dream
Beneath the tree
Of the “good, kind me”
I intend to be.

… Aye!

‘Twas beneath the tree
That I did see
Amidst the green
His eternal love for me.

I thank ye, kind sir, Bunny, for your time and for your ears

Come sit with me, please do, dear bunny, beneath the shade
For that is where, I do believe, all hopes and dreams are made.
With you, beside me, I know, will I have the utter strength
To share, declare and, earnestly, gabbing all, at length.

Rabbit, my sweet, lend to me, your flappy ears, please do,
There’s much to say, before you play, pray, sit – ’tis just us two.

I do not wish, oh yes, I don’t, for any fame or glory,
Nor for threads of silver, no golden needles – no, not me!
Sprawling lawns, chandeliered mansions? I have no desire, nay
Diamonds, rubies….ah, the jewels, perhaps…but, NO – no way!

What I want…what I really want…really, really want
With all my heart, deep in my soul, and this I truly want..
Is a moment with my dad and bro, how precious and how priceless, yes,
Their gentle embrace; heartwarming smiles and the kindness in their eyes.

For now they fly high among the angels, their souls both shining bright,
Left me with a casket, ’tis filled with regal, treasured riches, ever so rare,
It holds their love, their goodness, those virtues pure and oh-so right!
Ah, I am rich, beyond all measures, by their legacy extraordinaire.

I thank ye, kind sir, Bunny, for your time and for your ears,
I wish you well, and hope you find that cabbage, you hold so dear!

Of friends and flowers

image via the web

What a delightful feeling it is, and how heartwarming! Yes, getting together with friends.

Whether the friends are from school or college, or even newly-made friends, time spent with them is so precious!

Having a cup of tea or coffee whilst chatting with them is simply lovely…and relaxing.

Ah, friends – even the blogger chums – I value them tremendously.

Each friend has a story to tell…

Their tales are woven in the rich tapestry of life. They are the sunshine that appears after stormy weather.

They are the comforting balm to heal our troubles.

They are the warm hug that says, “You’re going to be all right.”

They are the giggles after a tempest.

Their gentle touch is like magic, fairy dust sprinkled upon us.

They console us by telling us, wisely, that: “It’s water under the bridge, so stop worrying!”

They are the wink that tells us that a secret has just been shared…

Even my blogger friends add charm to the beautiful life.

They are across oceans and miles apart, but contact with them adds glitter and sparkle.

What diversity.. I love reading their various posts – especially when chocolate is involved!

Cheers for the friends I have. I truly value their presence in my life.

I embrace their vitality, wisdom and reassurance, together with the fun and laughter… Yes, I certainly do!

As someone once said: “Friends are flowers in the Garden of Life.”

God bless!

PS. Right, now kindly excuse me, I must skedaddle back to my coffee and chit-chat. Only the heavens know what all ‘gossie-wossie‘  vital information I have missed! 😉

Stop and smell the flowers

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”  ~ Georgia O’Keeffe

I spent my childhood in England. Lovely memories! Vivid is the memory of the floral beauty there—daffodil, bluebell, chrysanthemum, sweet pea, geranium, foxglove, hydrangea, carnation, to name just a few. Happily, I can still picture the garden.

It’s a warm, sunny day. The flowers are flourishing. Bumblebees buzz among the petals and beautiful butterflies flit from bloom to bloom. Enhancing this delightful experience further, is the sweet fragrance of the different flowers.

But, alas, so many of us are forever dashing here and there, in a perpetual frenzy to reach our destinations that we don’t stop to take in the floral beauty that surrounds us. Carrying brollies and bags, we even fail to notice the gentle breeze which transports the sweet scent everywhere.

If we could just pause, a little while to relax. Take note of the splendid greenery…the flowers…trees and the verdant grass. Then inhale. Exhale. What a different (and better) person we would be! We would be more appreciative of God’s wonderful blessings. And, truly grateful to Him for His miracles.

Knowing how much I love flowers (doesn’t everyone?), my beloved friends from all over the world shared with me photos of  their gorgeous gardens. Bless ’em, the dear souls!

Now, through my blog , I am sharing a few of the photos.

Remember to also, think of happy, positive thoughts. Focus on your breathing. Inhale. Exhale. All the while, smiling. God bless!

I am your blessing, said the petal to the flower

Courtesy of A.L

I am your blessing, said the petal to the flower

Down in the countryside, deep in the garden

Is a bed of buds just waiting to blossom.

Whispering sounds of gentle breeze rustle all around,

The verdant grass, a welcome sight, its dewdrops glisten bright.

Radiantly, the sun now shines; the rains have played their part

But buds remain buds, unopened…just nodding up and down.

When suddenly, magically, abracadabra, appears a pretty petal,

One by one, the petals emerge, splashing colours ‘pon the green.

‘We are yours – your heavenly blessings,’ cry out the petals, loud and clear

Then, with grace and quiet dignity, all unite to form the flower.

Angry birds?

Good morning!

I am out and about among the flowers and trees, the warbling birds and the buzzing bees. With a hop, a skip and a jump—plus a wee stretch of warming up exercises—I begin my daily walk.

Joggers, pink and white, feel light upon my feet. I take in the crisp, cool air; a gentle spring at every step. Briskly, I stride, resolute and firm, and with a cheery smile, I’m on my way. Treading carefully on the kerb, I cross the road and enter the park. Read the rest of this entry
