The tale behind the Autumn tree

Autumn is the season of many colours. Rust, orange, brown, yellow, green, bronze, maroon, grey and beige. Indeed, Fall has a unique charm of its own. Utterly stunning. Simply enchanting!

It’s as if from beneath the coloured leaves, wee fairies, elves and gnomes will suddenly pop up and add a magical sparkle to the already delightful season.

As the richly tinted leaves rustle about on the ground in windy weather, high above, the trees stand tall, strong and bare. All that is seen is a maze of naked, spindly branches.

Looking at it, I am forced to dwell on its strange similarity to the way our life is. True, life changes. Conditions and situations never remain the same. They change. And as life changes, so do our choices.

That maze of branches, each one going off in different directions, symbolises our various choices in life.

The bird knows exactly which branch to sit on. Wise. Good choice. Success!

In life, when I come to the crossroads, I hesitate, I pause; a little reluctant to make that choice.

Do I take the one most travelled on or the other, that’s less travelled on?

Yes, it is my choice. I do agree

But..

What is yours?

For..

that will make all the difference.

October, shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

A long, long time ago, Year had twelve little ‘uns,

January, February, March, April and May,

June, July, August, September and October…phew!

November, and finally, thank goodness, the last, December.

Now each one, Momma trained them well,

With patience, wisdom and a deep understanding.

Each babe/month, portrayed, a character unique,

Personalites, they differed in features and traits.

Some months were gentle, a few, blooming, and a couple, wee frosty,

But one was a rebel, wreaking havoc and chaos, such turmoil!

Aye, that would be October…yes, the naughty little imp!

Because every time he’d say “Fall!”, the leaves all shook.

Trembling……they’d change from greens to bronzes, russets and yellow,

Ochres, maroons, mustards and browns.

In cahoots with Gusty he was, that gutsy, strong wind,

Together, they’d whizz and whistle through branches and bowers.

Causing leaves to swirl and twirl, all frantic, in endless frenzy,

Zipping here, swishing there, forming teeny-weeny tornadoes.

Yet harmless and friendly, was the duo—Gusty and ‘Tober,

Declaring, “We just want a little fun!”

And so it’s true, it really is…

You only need to look around and see…

That although they act in such a manner,

The colourful beauty created is truly enchanting—and oh-so magical!

Autumn Leaves

A cup of hot tea sits on the window sill. I lift it up and curl my fingers around it. My hands feel the swaddling warmth. Swirls of blistering steam spiral upwards. I see the wispy twirls then whizz out through the open window. I push the curtain aside. And take a deep breath, inhaling the crisp, cool morning air.

I take a peek outside. The scene before me excites my senses. The morning chill tingles my skin with goose bumps; my ears perk up to the outdoorsy sounds; I smell the fresh, clean air, and gladly eye the shower of leaves, fluttering about like snowflakes.
