The great experience of life…

My dearest, darling little brother

❤️ Darling Brother M.K.A ❤️

My dearest, darling little brother,

I know, without a doubt, sweet brother, that you are enjoying Heaven and that you are in high spirits over there, yet I still must ask: “How are you?”

You were are the baby of the family and I am the eldest among us three siblings. You left us much too soon. My heart aches. No words can give me comfort, and no one can help drive away the pain.

Sad to say, I simply took it all for granted. I thought that there would be many more days, more weeks, months and years for sibling shenanigans – in fact, even on the day you left us, I was waiting to see your smiling face, when later that evening, on your arrival home, I’d carry out the same daily ritual…..I’d quickly demand the ‘password’ before letting you in. Of course, you knew there was no password and that I’d promptly open the door for you. But that daily drama had to be done.

I dearly miss that. It feels as if a bit of my heart has been taken away.

I vividly remember…… The sun set that evening. I waited for you, bro. I so wanted to see your smiling face. But that was never to be. God had other plans. We must submit to His will. Yet still, I can’t help wondering, why? It hurts enormously.

Why? .. Why? Questions sail on my flowing tears, the mist fogs up my vision. Deeply distressed. Bewildered. Baffled. Yet I realise, I must bow to His will, I must!

You left without even saying “goodbye” … Each morning, after breakfast, you’d leave for office at 8.10am, promptly. That day, within an hour, I received the dreaded phone call. A stranger calling to tell me that you were are no more.

Shocked. Numb. I am dumbstruck. I am stunned, shattered by the effect of the words. I feel as if I’m having a bad dream nightmare, and, in desperation I try to wake up. But, the reality hits me, wickedly, in the face. It is all true. This is real. I walk in my room, aimlessly, waiting for the facts to sink in.

This was a phone call I thought I would never receive, and words I would never hear. Because, somehow, the silly me always thought I’d be the first one to go. After all, I am the eldest – the old one.

Even though you were are our baby, yet you always took care of my problems and, like a true super hero, invariably found solutions to all the difficult happenings in my life. You were there at all times for me. And, yes, even now, you are here beside me. I honestly believe that.

I can sense your presence. I talk to you as if you’re sitting right next to me…..and yes, you surely are. God has been kind. He let us have you for fifty-three years, how blessed we were are! Greatly honoured. It was is a privilege having you belong to our family. Thank You, God, immensely.

I feel enormously blessed because whenever I think of you, I can only remember the happy times. And He graced us with countless! All the laughter, the giggles, innocent guffaws, those secret exchanges of knowing smiles after creating a blooper, and those stifled sniggers, still echo cheerily in my ears. Many a time I catch myself grinning broadly when recalling some of our escapades. God bless.

You’d tell people that: “Whenever my big sister rings me and, in a particular tone of voice, says, ‘Hello, MKA, are you there?’, I know that she’s committed a boo-boo somewhere!”

Haha, that’s so true. For whenever I’d done something catastrophic or bungled up somewhere, you, my darling brother – my knight in shining armour – would come riding on your white horse and rescue me – the dainty, delicate damsel in distress! Sigh. You knew me very well. Sigh. I miss you so.

I am remembering a childhood incident that took place in Yorkshire, England. Mum had taken us three siblings to watch Walt Disney’s ‘The Sword in the Stone.’

It turned out that you, little bro (at the tender age of four and a half, if you please!) were smitten by Queen Guinevere. You wished to be Sir Lancelot, the top knight of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table. Oh crikey, and what a dashing knight you turned out to be!

After the film, that day, you spent ages in your room, flapping cardboard, flicking crayons and flipping papers. Eventually, when you emerged from your room, what sight do we behold? Or, rather, who do we see?

Sir Lancelot! Yes. Little bro, our knight in shining armour, all dressed up, carrying a cardboard sword and a cardboard shield, bearing a name that was oh-so proudly emblazoned on the cardboard weapon of mass destruction: ‘Slanslot.’ …………. Aww.

One day, years back, Daddy asked you, beloved brother, to write a composition……a task you weren’t pretty fond of then, yet you acceded to parent’s request.

And your Pulitzer Prize winning essay went thus….

‘One day ten crows sat on a wall. They all fell off the wall. Then there were ten dead crows.’

End of story. Period. ……oh, the poor crows.

Huh? Well, whatever happened next, and whatever Daddy said, let suspense reign, eh, little brother? *wink*

Ah, dear little brother, while you lived and laughed amongst us, you generously sprinkled happiness and joy wherever you went. Your cheery grin embraced friends and family alike. Your compassion and kindness touched all those who knew you. Even the little stray kittens would come rushing to you, for despite coming home tired after a busy day at work, you would always have time to feed them their favourite dish – slices of bread dipped in milk.

God bless you, my darling. You’ve done us proud. You walked the earth with humility and gentleness. Your goodness enveloped all. God blessed us with you, a pure soul, a kindly being who spent fifty-three glorious, memorable years with us. Short they may have been, but my, what magnificence and purity we were blessed with – our precious MKA! Thank You, Lord.

Keep smiling, dearest one!

All my love, hugs and kisses,

Your loving big sis,

Deed xx

Slimy-cor-blimey Spooks are about!

Look out! Watch out! Mind out!
Slimy-cor-blimey Spooks are about.

Witches fly, and snakes a-slither;
Ghouls glide, skim hither-thither.

Creepy-crawlies! Yikes! Shiver me timber!
Scorpions! Centipedes! Gosh, how they limber!

Cobwebs! Spiders! Ants, and what-not;
‘tis a trap, be warned, a bait, to catch us lot.

Asudden, Ghosts pop up – a deadly shock!
Be wary! Alert! Just toss ‘em a rock.

Ravens and crows, go flap a-screeching;
Bats and vampires, go bite a-bleeding.

Darkness, scary shapes….and eerie sounds;
Odours most foul, waft in the grounds.

Rattling bones, skinny skeletons, bulging eyeballs;
Jangling chains, roaches – but shush! I hear phone calls.

Hello? The telephone line crackles,
Oh no! The head wicked witch cackles…

Whaaat?? Warty’s keen to know: “Trick or Treating?”
Who, me? I fire back: “Ha! Safe in bed a-sleeping!”

I met Alice…..or did I?

It doesn’t matter
If, amidst the clatter,
You want to natter,
So, let us chatter;
And, yeah, get fatter
On doughnuts, yum, that batter.
Oops, the rain goes pitter-patter
Hurry, dash inside, Mr Mad Hatter!

Now, Alice turns to me
“It’s very unfair, don’t you see,
With Mad Hatter, you had tea,
Doughnuts too, but not with me!”
I look around and all I see
Such angry faces, out to get me.
The Queen, the Cat and company,
So, with White Rabbit, I quickly flee.

Out the tree, I swiftly hop,
Run up the hill, to its top;
I’ll not tarry, or wait a dot,
I’m in trouble, quite in a spot.
“Goodbye,” I yell, “you creepy lot!
You weird, eerie, dotty lot!”

At home now, I am…in Camelot,
So, hey you all, was it a dream…or what?

The tale behind the Autumn tree

Standard
IMG_0018

Personal photo.

Autumn is the season of many colours. Rust, orange, brown, yellow, green, bronze, maroon, grey and beige. Indeed, Fall has a unique charm of its own. Utterly stunning. Simply enchanting!

It’s as if from beneath the coloured leaves, wee fairies, elves and gnomes will suddenly pop up and add a magical sparkle to the already delightful season.

As the richly tinted leaves rustle about on the ground in windy weather, high above, the trees stand tall, strong and bare. All that is seen is a maze of naked, spindly branches.

Looking at it, I am forced to dwell on its strange similarity to the way our life is. True, life changes. Conditions and situations never remain the same. They change. And as life changes, so do our choices.

That maze of branches, each one going off in different directions, symbolises our various choices in life.

The bird knows exactly which branch to sit on. Wise. Good choice. Success!

In life, when I come to the crossroads, I hesitate, I pause; a little reluctant to make that choice.

Do I take the one most travelled on or the other, that’s less travelled on?

Yes, it is my choice. I do agree

But..

What is yours?

For..

that will make all the difference.

What a lovely start to the new year! Happy thoughts of health, joy and compassion. I am so grateful to welcome in another year to help me fulfil my oh-so many hopes, dreams and aspirations. Thank You!

Indeed, yes, a wonderful way to kick in 2017… Sparkle! Bloom!

As we celebrate, let us remember family, friends, strangers, children, babies – all citizens of the world, no matter where they reside, regardless of race, colour and creed. Extend a warm, loving handshake of peace and kindness. For we are all God’s children.

Send a prayer out to those who are battling inner demons…may they find the calmness they are searching for.

Pray for….

…strength for those struggling with health issues…may they discover comfort and ease.

…courage for youngsters who are troubled by peer pressure…may they gain the confidence to stand tall.

Amen.

Here, I would like to include my special thoughts … Being sent out to everyone…

May God embrace you with His love and mercy.

May you enjoy good health and success.

May happiness be yours.

May your dreams be realised,

And your hopes and wishes too.

May His light shine upon your home,

To keep you and your loved ones safe.

Amen.

‘Tis the time for reconciliation,

A warm embrace and forgiveness too.

Treasure old acquaintances,

Welcome warmly new friends.

Cherish memories of the past!

Enjoy new experiences.

Have fun and celebrate!

Life is like a tapestry of magnificence..

That is interwoven with precious family and friends.

Allow compassion for everyone, young and old alike

Be strong in sorrow and steadfast in trials,

Let not setbacks discourage, but rather stir up fierce determination.

Value health, it’s His greatest gift.

Breathe the air and be thankful;

Thankful for the sense of sight, smell, taste, touch

And listen to the sound of the Joy of Life!

Accept the challenges,

Shoulder new responsibilities.

Dare to be remarkable!

Dare to be positive!

And, above all… Dare to be good!

May 2017 be your best new year.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Peace. Love. Light.

God bless.

And miles to go before I sleep

I just adore travelling! .. Don’t you?

Bags are packed. I’m on my way.

Where am I going? .. Do you know?

I don’t but.. .. Perhaps, you might.

Anyway, I’m all set, and ready to go.

The sun is shining. .. Do you know why?

The beautiful, wandering clouds pass by.

Oh, I love them! .. What about you?

I feel the blood ecstatically rushing through my veins.

My mind’s agog with the adrenaline, gushing through my body.

Excitement. Thrills. Adventures. .. Do you feel the same?

The cool air tingles, the gentle breeze whispers.

Oh, I say, what a merriment of the senses! .. Do you not agree?

The majestic sight of snow-clad mountain peaks;

The exhilarating scents of freshly mown grass;

The soft cooing of the peaceful doves;

The cool taste of the luscious ice cream, tickling the palate;

Ah, the welcome of the invigorating fresh air as it embraces!

Did you feel that?

Did you?

Really,

and

Truly?

Pause … Reflect …

And me?

Well…..

I feel a feel, a funny feel

A funny feel, feel I

And if you feel, the feel I feel

You’ll feel the same as I.

Aye,

’tis true.

So,

Do come along with me, my friend,

Join me in my travels.

There’s oodles to do, many places to go

Let me tell you the reason why.

The world is lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Sounds familiar, eh?

Embrace Your Blessings

“Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering.”

~ Dr Steve Maraboli

I am going to be happy today!

Oh, what a beautiful day it is, by His grace.

I love the sun as it shines. It seems to grin at me through the leafy branches.

The clouds pass by. With their sailing swirls of blues and whites, they gently acknowledge my presence.

I am going to be happy today!

Oh, what a beautiful day it is, by His grace.

The tingling, kindly breeze softly caresses my cheek. Refreshed, I feel joyful and immensely grateful to be alive.

So many sparrows in flight, soaring and swooping. They chirp excitedly, and shower at the bird fountain, before taking a peck at the breadcrumbs and seeds scattered nearby.

I am going to be happy today!

Oh, what a beautiful day it is, by His grace.

A razzmatazz of colours appears in the front. Such a beautiful array of flowers – dahlias, roses, hollyhocks, pansies, zinnias, chrysanthemums, marigolds, phlox, gladioli, bougainvilleas and a whole lot more.

The lush green grass feels cool, bejewelled by the morning dew, each blade shimmering and sparkling by the radiant sunshine.

I am going to be happy today!

Oh, what a beautiful day it is, by His grace.

The splendour of three butterflies fluttering around, begs my attention. Brilliant yellows, crimson reds, turquoise blues and dazzling oranges waltz, then salsa, ending their dance sequence with the rhumba. I’m hypnotised.

How delightful is my garden! Indeed, my cup runneth over, my heart swells with gratefulness. Gratitude waters my soul; verdant with an abundance of blessings.

I am going to be happy today!

I am thankful for all the blessings – past, present and future.

Oh, what a beautiful day it is, by His grace.

Ah, such a positive, splendid life I have… I love it. I am going to live it.

I have embraced my blessings. Have you?

Make today worth remembering.

Cheers!

“Please release me, let me go.”

Standard

Ah, Sunday!

Love and hugs to this beautiful day of the week.

Warm thoughts. Simple lazing about. Wearing PJs all day long. Yes!

That’s the life. Tralalalala.

I watch the sun’s rays prance about the room. The fronds of the palms gently brush against the window pane.

Swish. Swash.

The pile of puffed up pillows, all comfy, tantalisingly invite me back to bed.

Oh, such sweet surrender!

I close my eyes. Basking in the silence. I embrace the peace and quiet. And, breathe.

Suddenly..

Kerboom!!

My eyes snap open, wide. My mouth, agape.

Like a bolt out of the blue, a deafening clamour rudely interupts my peaceful state.

High-pitched, panicked shrieks. Wild thudding about of flapping flip-flops. Chaos, crescendo-ing with a medley of screams ‘n shouts of: “Dead!”, “Dead!” and “Dead!”

Horrified.

Mortified.

I jump up and kangaroo-hop out of the room.

Caramba!

Mama Mia!

Si, drama muchas in the house.

I survey the scene in front of me.

Mum sobbing away. Her eyes puffy, red-rimmed, along with a Rudolph-hued nose, sniffling away.

Shocked. Concerned. I query the reason for the outburst.

Oui, Monsieur Poirot, the mystery unfolds.

Where? Who? How? And, why?

Sam the cook aka the narrator, reveals all. The incident details, I meant. *mal does an eye roll*

A catastrophic calamity has happended in the aquarium.

One dead fish. Corpse lying behind air filter. Presumed…er…drowned?

Beep-Beep. SOS. Au secours!

Emergency Service’s Doc Mal is called in. (That’s yours truly). With help from her devoted assistant Sam (aka The Cook), they discover that the cheeky goldfish was fooling about behind the air filter, when the entrapment occurred.

No, peeps, no! Not the Sean Connery kind of entrapment. Hey! Guys! Quit the guffaws. We’re talking about fish here.

Think straight.

Focus!

Anyhow, the innocent poor, stupid goldfish became entangled in the tentacles of the plants, just behind the air filter. And, yes. Tentacles, I said. You know, the long spindly leaves of reeds? Duh. So, wipe that smirk off your face.

A sweet refrain cacophony of “Please release me, let me go,” gurgles and bubbles to the surface. The prisoner wriggles and jiggles. The shackles, tight and taut. The gills, huffing and puffing.

Need I remind, you guys, I said gills, not girls? Sigh. *mal does another eye roll*

Then..

The minutes tick on by.

Eventually, the captive is released….through a very delicate operation, conducted by a couple of extremely competent elite forces. (Yeah, eat your heart out, Arnie baby).

Well…

…to cut a long tail tale short – Mum is okay, and smiling away.

All fish are fine, and swimming away.

Mal’s deputy is back at his work place (aka The Kitchen), chopping away. (BTW, Mum cancelled the day’s special of Curried Fried Fish).

And…

Mal?

Well, since the goldfish (aka The Stupid Fish) spoilt her day….she might kill it herself, one day. Or, maybe not.

She probably won’t. Ever. Never. Nay, no way, Jose. Period. Full stop.

Because… *and with a glint in her eye* .. Mal remarked:

“There are plenty more fish in the sea.”

Signs of Your miracles!

Standard

Courtesy of M.A.Q

See the garden, green and lush, that freshly blooms;

Observe the red-bricked house and all its rooms;

Note the far off planet, strange, with rings and several moons;

Look! Happy, excited, giggly children, watching cartoons.

Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!

******

Ah, heed the ocean, with its waves, eddies and tides;

The sprightly, little donkey and its fun-filled rides;

Smell the bakery goodies – its cakes, doughnuts and pies;

Listen to the chatter and natter of proud grooms ‘n’ blushing brides.

Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!

******

Watch the bonny, bouncy, bubbly babes;

Catch those magical, wonderful, dainty snowflakes;

Oh! And, careful of gorillas, baboons, chimps and apes;

Sea creatures of odd sizes – Wow! A kaleidoscope of colours ‘n’ shapes.

Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!

******

Embrace the loving protection of your dad – be enormously grateful;

Hug the caring devotion of your mum – be tremendously thankful;

Huddle up with the love and affection of sibling unity – be joyful;

For, yes, indeed, ’tis family that really matters – utterly delightful!

Aye, undoubtedly, these are the fine signs of some of Your miracles!

So…

Much obliged, we truly are, dear Lord, for all these rich Blessings,

You are Merciful, Gracious, Omnipotent, Forgiving and Kind;

Appreciative we are, for the life You have granted – with its endless lessons;

Prithee now, most earnestly, we humbly pray, to be good, content, compassionate and kind.

Amen.
